Using the creative process within a safe therapeutic group space, the Friday morning art therapy group at Birchtree Centre provides the opportunity to explore and give expression to feelings that may be difficult to communicate through words alone.

At times anxiety and depression are felt in ways that may be difficult to express. Exploring the self through the creative process can support people to connect with and gain insight into their feelings and relationships. Through creative communication, connections can be made, patterns of behavior can be considered and change instigated

No artistic skills are required, just a curiosity about the health and well-being benefits of the creative process. This approach is very effective in helping us to access feelings from the past and present.

These groups will allow time for individual art-making as well as processing and exploration of these images. The exploration of the images in the group is facilitated to be a safe and gentle but powerful process. The themes arising in the group are worked with to encourage insight and to support the working through of both conscious and unconscious material.
