Workshop for Family and Friends of those struggling with the impact of recent and/or past trauma
It is extremely hard to know how to help a loved one who is facing the long-term impact of childhood trauma. Survivors may believe deep down that no one can be trusted and that any intimacy is dangerous. These thoughts and beliefs can cause ruptures in adult relationships. Unhealed trauma can become intertwined in these relationships, such that effective communication can be challenging for all concerned.
Learning how complex trauma affects people can help you to begin to make sense of the impact of your loved one’s history.
This workshop will assist you in:
- Understanding the way in which trauma affects the developing brain
- Exploring the concept of Neuroplasticity – what can be done to help lay down new pathways in the brain
- How to help when loved ones are triggered
- Separating out “then and now” – the 90/10 reaction and what it means in terms of reactions to current life stressors
- Developing strategies for self care – how to be gentle with yourself and have your needs met
This workshop is an educational workshop – you will not be expected to share details of your own or your loved one’s history at any point. It can be helpful, however, to take some of your thoughts and insights based on the content back to your support network for further exploration and discussion.
This workshop will take place at Birchtree Centre, 58 Parramatta Road, Forest Lodge. Parking is available in surrounding streets
Morning tea will be provided.
