Description

PATIENT WORKSHOP

A Workshop for Survivors of Recent and Past Trauma

Many people who have experienced trauma and/or neglect find it difficult to make sense of their current struggles. It is common to feel a sense of lacking control over various aspects of your life, to feel ‘different’, shameful and alone in your experiences.

Learning how complex trauma affects people can help you to begin to make sense of the impact of your upbringing. It can also assist you in decreasing shame and recognising a commonality with others who have had similar experiences.

This workshop will assist you in:

  • Understanding the way in which trauma affects the developing brain
  • Exploring the concept of Neuroplasticity – what you can do to help lay down new pathways in your brain
  • Identifying the evolutionary responses to threat, and how you can help settle a dysregulated nervous system.
  • Why safety is important and how you can increase your sense of safety
  • Separating out “then and now” – the 90/10 reaction and what it means for you in terms of your reactions to current events in your life
  • Developing strategies for self soothing and settling – how to be gentle with yourself

This workshop is an educational workshop – you will not be expected to share details of your history at any point. It can be helpful, however, to take some of your thoughts and insights based on the content back to your individual therapist for further exploration and discussion.

This workshop will take place at Birchtree Centre, Level 1, 58 Parramatta Road, Forest Lodge. Parking is available in surrounding streets

Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.
