Surviving the Impact of growing up with a Narcissistic Caregiver – back by popular demand! Many survivors of complex trauma struggle with the legacy of growing up with Narcissistic Caregivers. The ‘one world’ view of a narcissistic caregiver commonly results in the need for their children to suppress their thoughts, emotions and physical responses. Their distress is ‘unnoticed, untreated and unassisted’ within their home environment. Sole focus remains on the narcissistic caregiver whose moods control the ‘emotional temperature’ of the family. Most survivors of narcissistic parenting arrive in adulthood feeling that something is deeply wrong with them. They often struggle with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and difficulties within their intimate relationships. All too often these struggles remain disconnected from their experiences within their family of origin. Boundaries provide the foundation for every relationship, including the relationship with ourselves. Think of them like retaining walls that protect you – without having them confidently in place, everything else might seem wobbly and insecure.     Boundaries help to define what makes you You! Through your boundaries you can communicate who you are and what you stand for. In simple language, boundaries are the way you keep yourself safe and protected.
